After SPIN! "Question to Becki and Chris – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Mark Johnson has opened up a can of worms when he made a comment that the starting teacher’s salary of $35,000 per year is good money for many young teachers. Supporters say it a above the median income for workers in their twenties but NCAE responded by not inviting Johnson to speak to them. What’s your reaction to his comments?"

Mandy Smith says:

Very good money! Roughly $195.00 per day? School is in session 180 days per year so if a teacher works every one of those days, meaning they do not take any sick days, no vacation days, other than the other 185 days each year that school is not in session of course, the $35,000 comes out to $195.00 daily. Let's not forget the state benefits package, even though teachers work part time, they get the same benefits as full time state workers in addition to more pay that most full time state employees.
