After SPIN! Video: Should Gov. Cooper oppose or support the Atlantic Coast Pipeline?

Published January 25, 2018

After Spin! Question to John Hood and Chris Fitzsimon - One of the holdover issues from last year involves the Atlantic Coast Pipeline, a 600-mile connector that would bring natural gas to the eastern part of our state. John Hood, you published a column recently saying Governor Cooper needs to stake himself out on this issue. Tell us why you say so and Chris do you agree? If so, should the Governor support or oppose the pipeline?

Norm Kelly says:

Of course Roy should support the pipeline.

First, it will create income to the state from multiple sources.

Second, it will create jobs.

Third, it will provide one more option for business development in the eastern part of the state.

There are probably a multitude of reasons why Roy should step out in favor of this pipeline. Of course there are questions that need to be answered, and probably have been since this has been going on so long.

Roy can't support the pipeline. Roy won't support the pipeline.

Only reason: he's a demoncrat. If Roy comes out in favor of the pipeline, he KNOWS, as the rest of us do, that he will be drummed out of the socialist demoncrat party. The party would revoke his membership. He'd be forced to switch party affiliation to Independent, at the least. He would get NO support from demons for a re-election bid. Roy supporting the pipeline would be a death blow to his political career.

It sure would be nice if Roy would prove me wrong.

But I won't hold my breath.
