After SPIN! Video: Should State Retirees be required to enroll in Medicare?

After SPIN! "Question to Bob Orr – Legislators are proposing to curtail health benefits to new state employees when they retire. Until a few years ago state employees who worked for five years got free health insurance for life when they turned aged 60. It was changed so that employees who worked between 10 and 25 years had to pay half the cost of insurance and would get free health insurance after working 25 years. Because of a $25 billion unfunded liability the legislature wants to do away with the retiree health insurance benefit altogether. As one who worked for the state what are the legal and moral obligations of the state? Should the state require those who are eligible to enroll in Medicare?"

Both the public sector and the private sector need to move away from providing health care benefits as a form of compensation. Pay the employee more money and let them shop for the amount of coverage that they choose. Freedom baby!
