Bonds on the ballot

North Carolina hasn’t seen a state-wide bond referendum since the early 2000s, but that doesn’t mean the local governments haven’t had a bond on the ballot. This year there are a number of bond items on the ballot including water systems, parks and recreation, schools, sidewalks, and many more. Some for the county, and some are for a municipality. Below is a map of the counties where bonds are on the ballot along with a table showing each bond and how much they are worth.
*Some cities are in more than one county. A municipal bond election will be on the ballot for all city residents regardless of what county they reside. This is the case with Raleigh in Durham and Wake counties and Blowing Rock in Watauga and Caldwell counties.

Our little Town here on the coast is locked into $10M plus in debt service over the next 20 years, over 1/3 of the total Town budget and as large as the total Town budget 15-20 years ago. Now Town officials are talking about another $100M in new debt for beach nourishment that could be washed away in one tropical storm.
