  Carolina Community for 02/23/06

Clinton, NC

Carolina Communities LogoThe town of Clinton was incorporated in 1852, later becoming quite a bright idea. Clinton is known as one of the first towns in North Carolina to receive electricity.

In 1923 CP&L brought dependable lighting to a town which later developed into the major agricultural marketing center of Sampson County. Discovered by Scottish and English settlers in the mid-1700’s this agricultural community grew rapidly. Construction of the Wel-don Railroad jump-started Clinton’s modern era.

Clinton DowntownA disastrous fire wiped away much of Clinton’s early records. Clinton now is making history as a community with close proximity to many state attractions. The city hosts a Hall of Fame and agricultural exposition center. Clinton sports a revitalized downtown and a top-flight cancer treatment center. Citizens just celebrated Willie Parker Day, honoring this former Sampson County resident who helped his Pittsburgh Steeler’s win this year’s Super Bowl. In addition, basketball great Terry Holland was born here and former US Senator Lauch Faircloth calls this week’s Carolina Community, Clinton, home.
