Laurinburg, NC
Settled by Scottish immigrants more than two centuries ago, Laurinburg, was named after the McLaurin family.County seat of Scotland County, the Southeastern Carolina community of 17,000 blends a rich heritage with a vibrant present. Located near the South Carolina line, Laurinburg is halfway between Charlotte and Wilmington.
Edwin Gill, longtime treasurer of North Carolina came from Laurinburg, which was also the boyhood home of the late Terry Sanford, former Governor and US Senator.
Laurinburg has a successful history of industrial recruitment and has garnered honors as an All American City three times. St. Andrews Presbyterian College, opened in 1961, continues a rich tradition of education. Thousands attend the John Blue Cotton Festival each October. The Indian Museum of the Carolinas houses over 100,000 artifacts of native American culture and history.
