Blowing Rock, NC

Carolina Communities LogoBlowing Rock is the site of mysterious winds that blow items back towards you and magnificent mountain views are embellished by legendary Indian lovers. Sitting on the Continental Divide, the picture perfect town of Blowing Rock is this week’s Carolina Community.

The name comes from a legend about two lovers from opposing Cherokee and Catawba Indian tribes that would not allow them to be together. When one lover leapt off the 3,000 foot cliff a Great Spirit reunited them.

Blowing Rock, NCMany returning Civil War veterans joined their families seeking shelter in the quiet hills. Blowing Rock incorporated in 1889 and grew in fame as one of the South’s leading resorts and is the only full-service town directly on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

This community offers over 30-restaurants, professional summer theatre, numerous resorts and attractions including wine and Celtic festivals. A new performing arts center will premiere soon featuring Mickey Rooney.

For its windy charms, and lovely legends, Blowing Rock is week’s Carolina Community.
