Hendersonville, NC

Carolina Communities LogoDecades before there was such a thing as glitzy tourism campaigns, Hendersonville’s 5,000 foot elevations were cooling off many sweltering visitors.

William Mills, who earned the first land grant west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, discovered this former Cherokee hunting ground in the late1780s. Both the town and county were named after former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Leonard Henderson and the county is the largest producer of apples in our state.

Hendersonville, NCToday Hendersonville’s history is preserved downtown where flower boxes decorate curving streets. Tourists enjoy the restored Hendersonville Depot site that is one of the steepest main-line standard gauge railroads in the US. The Flat Rock Playhouse, has a national reputation as many well known entertainers have headlined. Nearby Pisgah National Forest and Jump Off Rock are two tourist attractions. Thomas Wolfe’s angel in his novel “Look Homeward Angel” can be found in Oakdale Cemetary.

For its ‘elevated’ sense of hospitality and we make Hendersonville this week’s Carolina Community.
