  Carolina Community for 08/10/06

Biltmore Forest, NC

Carolina Communities LogoOur Carolina Community for this week is considered the wealthiest town in North Carolina. Biltmore Forest is a 1,600-acre, 600 home, privately planned community of 1,500. It hugs the shadows of America’s largest home, Biltmore Estate, the city of Asheville, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

In 1916 trustees of the George Vanderbilt Estate sold land to develop a top-notch residential park and became THE place to live prior to the depression. In 1923, the area was incorporated as Biltmore Forest. Today it’s a residential community where fences are discouraged and great care is taken to maintain all trees. Homes start at about one million. The Biltmore Forest Country Club is the town’s hub and tournament Mecca.

Biltmore Forest, NCThere are even rumors that Prince Charles stayed at a home in Biltmore Forest when visiting family friends – the owners of the Biltmore Estate.

For its unique planned development and status among towns nationwide we make Biltmore Forest this week’s Carolina Community.

Putting Lipstick on the ABC Pig

Our current ABC is badly in need of reform but some current suggestions are little more than cosmetic changes.
