Newton, NC
Located in the western part of central North Carolina, Newton is a city of 13,000 and is the county seat of Catawba County. Chartered in 1855, it just completed the celebration of its 150th anniversary. With its patriotic pride demonstrated in the County Historical Museum and its annual Soldiers Reunion, Newton also has an affinity for cultural and artistic expression at the Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place and the annual Newtonfest Bluesjam concert series.
While Newton is known for textile and furniture companies, the economy has been expanded to include internationally prominent manufacturers of automotive parts, pharmaceutical supplies, fiber optic and wireless telecommunication equipment, metal and food products. Over 50 percent of the furniture produced in the US is manufactured within 200 miles of here.
Newton is the place where public and private interests combine for the betterment of all its citizens. It is proud of its past, enjoying its vibrant present and planning for its prosperous future and is this week’s Carolina Community.
