Scotland Neck, NC
Nestled eight miles from the Virginia border near the Roanoke River, Scotland Neck is an outdoor paradise.
The area was settled in 1722 by a colony of Scotch Highlanders, along the “neck” of the river. Incorporated as Scotland Neck in 1867, it now serves as the hub of Halifax County.
Scotland Neck is the only town in our state where Main Street has no stoplights and you can park in the middle of the street. That spacious avenue hosts the Crepe Myrtle festival in August. The community recently expanded its library. A branch of the Halifax Community College emphasizes courses in business and industry and the community hospital is recognized as a model for rural health care.
The Sylvan-Heights Waterfowl Park and Eco-Center is the town’s unique tourist attraction. This seven-acre facility houses the world’s largest collection of rare and endangered species of waterfowl, including the world’s largest wild waterfowl breeding collection.
