Eden, NC

Carolina Communities Logo You can still go to a drive-in movie in Eden or stroll along one of the four distinct downtown districts.

In 1728 Virginia Governor William Byrd was surveying the borders between the two colonies and called the area along the Dan and Smith Rivers a “Land of Eden” because of its beauty.  Patrick Henry’s son and grandson taught the first school in the 1800’s.

Edan In 1837 future Governor John Morehead started the Leaksville Cotton Mill. Because of the rivers, many textile mills located here, providing thousands of jobs.

In April 1967, three towns and one unincorporated community consolidated and this year celebrate the 40th anniversary of the new community of Eden. Former Governor Luther Hodges and music legend Charlie Poole called the area home. A new city park is enjoyed by many of the 18,000 residents, along with Eden’s yearly Riverfest, Applefest, and Pottery Festival.

Life along the “Land of Two Rivers” has remained a delight and makes Eden this week’s Carolina Community.
