Goldsboro, NC
Agriculture and airplanes are abundant in Goldsboro.
When Wayne County was formed in 1789, the town of Waynesborough was built along the Neuse River. The railroad built on the other side of the river, so the town relocated and was named Goldsborough’s Junction, after a district engineer for the rail line.
The Goldsboro urban area has a direct farm income of over $300 million. The second Jewish house of worship in our state was built here.
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base was built in 1942, named after a Goldsboro native and test pilot. It was rated as the best Air Force Base in the World and today houses the 4th Fighter Wing and the 916th Air Refueling Wing.
Governor Charles Aycock was born nearby and Actor Andy Griffith taught high school English and Drama here. The historic Paramount Theatre, built in 1882, is being restored. Wayne Technical Community College is one of the state’s strongest.
