Whiteville, NC
James White donated the site for the courthouse in Columbus County. Incorporated in 1883, it was no wonder they named the town Whiteville. Nearby Vineland merged into Whiteville, creating uptown and downtown.
Located along highway 74 in Southeastern Carolina, Whiteville has small town charm with big city connections. Downtown drug stores still make orangeades and you can sit at one of several lunch counters and get the latest news.
The North Carolina Forestry Museum proudly boasts the history and heritage of our state’s forests. Several festivals and community events bring people together. Nearby Lake Waccamaw is the largest natural lake between New York and Florida and was home to a band of Indians long before the White man came here. The World famous Siamese Twins, born in 1851, are buried nearby.
Famous citizens include NBA star Chris Wilcox, LPGA golfer Maggie Will, Trading Spaces’ Edward Walker and poet A.B. Ammons.
