Clemmons, NC
In 1802 Peter Clemmons purchased 200 acres of land for $542 and moved his wife and 14 children from Delaware to what we now call Clemmons, North Carolina. The Clemmons family operated a store and later a stagecoach business.
In 1921 William Neal Reynolds, brother of the cigarette manufacturer, purchased almost 1,000 acres of nearby land, expanded the manor house to 28 rooms and started raising horses on what is now called Tanglewood Park. Reynolds donated the land to Forsyth County in 1951 and it is now a state treasure featuring hundreds of rose bushes and the annual Festival of Lights with one of the largest and most spectacular holiday light shows in the Southeast.
Incorporated as a village in 1986, Clemmons enjoys a low unemployment rate and high median household income for the 17,000 who call it home. It is conveniently located near I-40 and is 10 miles southwest of Winston-Salem. A great place to visit and live we name Clemmons as an ideal Carolina Community.
