Cashiers, NC

There are at least five versions of how Cashiers got its name but the most likely is that one of the founding families was named Cash. In 1819 a treaty with the Cherokee nation opened this unincorporated community for settlement in Southwestern North Carolina.

Confederate General Wade Hampton, one of the wealthiest men in the South and later Governor and U.S. Senator from South Carolina settled here. The nationally renowned High Hampton Inn was built on his estate, boasting 116 rooms and a country club. Tycoons like Duke and Firestone came for the scenery and relaxation.

Cashiers offers over 60 miles of golf fairways, along with upscale restaurants, antique shops, and grand views. None is more majestic than Whitewater Falls. With a drop over 400 feet, this waterfall is higher than Niagara Falls and equal to the drop at Victoria Falls in Africa.

Regardless of how it was named Cashiers is home to quiet respite and breathtaking views and is our Carolina Community.
