  Carolina Community for 2/21/08

Broadway, NC

Carolina Communities Logo North Carolina's Broadway is nothing like Broadway in New York. Founded in 1870, this town of about 1,000 between Lillington and Sanford got its name from a broad, level opening in the area's vast pine forests.

Carolina Communities LogoTurpentine and cotton flourished after the rail line came through shortly after the turn of the 20th Century. The Broadway Normal School was widely acclaimed, accepting day and boarding students.

During the 1960's the town covered the water tower with lights and businesses burned a candle in their window as a show of hospitality, a tradition that quickly spread throughout the town.

When New York City wanted to thank America for their support following the September 11th disaster Broadway performers came to their namesake Broadway and put on a show, awarding the Mayor a fire hat signed by Mayors Giuliani and Bloomberg.

Baseball is huge in Broadway with Optimist Park hosting hundreds of games each year. Timeless in hospitality Broadway is our Carolina Community.
