Shallotte, NC

Carolina Communities LogoSettlers started arriving in Shallotte in the 1730’s. While everyone agrees the town was named for the river there is some disagreement about how the Shallotte River got its name. Some think it was named for an onion-like plant that grew along the river banks but most think the river was first named Charlotte River and over time was changed to Shallotte.

Shallotte, NCWater has always been important to this community of about 1,600. Fishing and farming were the first trades but ship building also developed to haul goods up and down river. Ideally situated mid-way between Wilmington and Myrtle Beach the area is surging with residential planned development communities, over 30 golf courses nearby, and Shallotte is the commercial hub of Brunswick County Tourists and residents enjoy the Summer Series in the Park and the Saturday morning Farmer’s market.

Only 10 feet above sea level Shallotte ranks high as a small coastal town with lots of charm, an ideal Carolina Community.
