Fayetteville, NC

After the Revolution the two settlements of Cross Creek and Campbellton were united and named Fayetteville, in honor of the Maarquis de Lafayette. For four years Fayetteville was our State Capital and the U.S. Constitution was ratified here in 1789. In 1865, General Sherman seized and burned the federal arsenal.

In 1914, young Babe Ruth hit his first professional homerun here. The largest U.S. Military installation, Fort Bragg, is home to paratroopers, Special Forces, and support troops. The Airborne & Special Operations Museum is one of the most visited sites in the state. The Dogwood Festival, drawing 200,000, is one of ten annual events.

Methodist University features a nationally recognized golf school. Golfers Chip Beck, and Ray Floyd and Actress Julianne Moore was born here. Fayetteville was the setting for Charles Chestnut’s The House Behind the Cedars. And Hiram Rhodes Revels the first African American in the U.S. Senate and Charles Manly Stedman, the last veteran of the Civil War to serve in Congress were born here.

The present and past make Fayetteville an outstanding Carolina Community.
