Disapproving of Pat

36% Approve

46% Disapprove

The WRAL Poll painted a bleak picture  of a Governor caught between a rock and a hard place.  As Mark Binker wrote, only a little over a third of the voters approve of the job Governor McCrory is doing.

But worse news lurked beneath the surface.

These days you see polarized groups of voters everywhere. Left, right, up, down, Republican, Democrat; everyone is mad at someone and can’t wait to vote ‘em out of office: Republicans don’t like Obama so they’re voting against Kay Hagan. Democrats don’t like the state legislature so they’re voting against Thom Tillis.

But, buried in the crosstabs of WRAL’s poll, two pitfalls lie in wait for Pat McCrory. Consider the Governor’s job approval rating among Republicans:

    Approve 64%

    Disapprove 22%

Almost a quarter of the Republicans believe Governor McCrory is doing a poor job. That doesn’t mean they won’t vote for him but whoever heard of a Republican winning a statewide election without winning 90% plus of the Republican vote.

One last statistic: The Governor needs half the Independents vote for him to win. Here’re the numbers:

Independent Voters

Pat McCrory Approve: 33%

Pat McCrory Disapprove: 46%

Tom Hauck says:

Thank you for your many columns and an insight to how you think -- or how you think we think.

I do not dislike President Obama or Senator Hagan. I do not know them so how can I dislike them?

I do dislike their policies and what they are doing to our country. President Obama, with his pen and his telephone and the complicity of Senator Harry Reid is actively engaged in changing our country from one to be proud of to a country that is just like the other failures around the world.

The sad thing is -- Senator Hagan -- no matter how often she claims she is against President Obama and his policies -- votes for Senator Harry Reid and he very actively supports the current downhill path of our country.

A perfect example, I think, is our current lack of a Surgeon General. The Democrats blame the NRA and the Republicans for complaining about the President's nominee but what Republican has voted against him or what Democrat has voted for President Obama's nominee? Not a single one because Senator Reid has not allowed a vote.
