Now that the legislature has adjourned the focus turns to the 2016 election campaign and the first campaign ads have already started. Following Treasurer Janet Cowell’s surprising announcement she would not seek another term many names of candidates to replace her have emerged.

Starting this week, Democrat Ron Elmer, launched what is believed to be the first salvo in the March 15th primary election, airing ads on the television show NC SPIN. Elmer is a CPA, college instructor, author and financial planner who ran for the post in 2012.

Others are sure to follow soon since the opening for filing begins December 1.
