Published February 10, 2012

On April 17th NC SPIN celebrates our 700th show with a delightful evening with CBS' Bob Schieffer, the dean of television journalists.

Bob Schieffer will share memories of working with legends like Walter Cronkite, give his perceptions of the state of television today and impart insights on the 2012 elections and how it impacts the direction of this nation. In addition to mingling with NC SPIN panelists come prepared for a surprise or two while celebrating the second longest statewide television talk show in North Carolina.

Each person attending will receive a free copy of Tom Campbell's new book and a special memento commemorating NC SPIN’s 700th show. We’ve planned a grand event and we hope you will join us at Bay 7 of the American Tobacco Complex in Durham at 6:45 p.m. Below you will find information on tickets and sponsorship opportunities, which include a small private reception with Bob Schieffer prior to the banquet.

Here’s why Bob Schieffer says programs like NC SPIN are important.

“Sunday mornings are a different time on television. The food fights and shouting matches that mark the prime-time cable programs are rare occurrences on Face the Nation. We have learned that our viewers are more interested in content than how loud someone can speak, and that is what we try to provide – serious discussion and analysis and no sound effects. The evening news programs bring a comprehensive digest of the day’s news, but time constraints limit them to just that – being a digest. On Sunday mornings, there is time for longer discussion. Face the Nation and the other Sunday programs have never attracted huge audiences by prime-time standards. It has always been who – not how many – watched our broadcast that has counted. Sunday mornings may be staid, even old-fashioned, but it is a time when those who shape opinion and make policy watch and listen to each other.”

We sincerely hope you will join Bob Schieffer, the NC SPIN family and me as we commemorate 14 years of discussion of North Carolina public policy issues. Thank you in advance for your support.

Warmest regards,

Tom Campbell
