Shirley Caesar faced overwhelming obstacles growing up in Raleigh and faced. In addition to discrimination, Shirley lost her father at age eight and cared for her semi-invalid mother. She began singing as a young girl in church and discovered she had a gift. She eventually graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in marketing from Shaw University.

Pastor Shirley had recorded over 40 albums, received 11 Grammy Awards, and 3 gold records. among many other honors. She has been inducted in the Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Married to Bishop Harold Williams for over 20 years, Caesar is pastor to Mount Calvary Word of Faith Holy Church in Raleigh, starting from just a few to over 500 members. She contributes a portion of all her many concert sales to Outreach Ministries.
