Bernie Mann

Bernie Mann not only adopted North Carolina, he has become one of the biggest and perhaps best promoters of our state. Bernie is, owns, and publishes Our State magazine. Mann came to North Carolina as a broadcaster, ultimately owning and operating 12 radio stations. He purchased Our State nine years ago and has turned it into the definitive portrait of who we are and what we love about North Carolina. During his tenure Our State has increased circulation to almost 120,000, built a staff of 33, and has taken this publication from 48 pages to over 200 pages each month, full of color pictures that portray our beauty and culture. In 2003, Bernie was awarded the Charles Kuralt Media Award for his contribution to the promotion of North Carolina. For his insistence on excellence, his love of our state, and contributions to the arts and non-profits, we recognize Bernie Mann as this week's NC Notable.
