| NC Notable for 6/23/05 |
John Allison
This week's NC Notable is John Allison, chairman and CEO of BB&T A native of Charllotte, John graduated from UNC with Phi Beta Kappa honors, then earned a graduate degree from Duke. He rose through the ranks of BB&T to become CEO and chairman. During his 16 years tenure this North Carolina bank has gone through several mergers and acquisitions and has even moved the company's headquarters from Wilson to Winston-Salem. Through it all BB&T has always maintained a corporate culture of staying close to customers and valuing employees. With a near photographic memory John is known for making inspiring talks and speeches without notes. He has a reputation as one of the most intelligent and innovative bankers in the nation. Allison makes many contributions outside banking, serving on many boards and commissions in our state. For his contribution to banking and to North Carolina, we are proud to recognize this week's NC Notable, John Allison.
