| NC Notable for 9/15/05 |
John Dornan
If you are going to talk about public education in North Carolina you have to include this week's NC Notable, John Dornan. This Pennsylvania native taught high school English before working with education associations in six states. He came to head the NC Association of Educations, but was encouraged to start the Public School Forum of North Carolina in 1986. Since that time John Dornan has become the independent voice for what is good and what needs improving in public education, garnering respect and admiration from all sides of the education spectrum. John has led the charge for major education legislation and has expanded the scope of the Forum's work into guidance of afterschool programs, an institute for education leadership, the teaching fellows program, and an institute for education policymakers. John serves on any number of boards of directors and was inducted in East Carolina University's Education Hall of Fame, among other honors and awards. For being a sound, reasoned, articulate and authoritative voice for excellence in public education we are proud to recognize John Dornan as an NC Notable.
