Reynolds Price

Reynolds Price Reynolds Price is a distinguished novelist, poet, dramatist and essayist. His richly textured works are often set in rural eastern North Carolina and explore the geography of the soul. Price was born in 1933 in Macon, NC. He graduated summa cum laude in 1955 from Duke University and spent three years at Merton College in Oxford, England as a Rhodes Scholar. After his return in 1958, Price began teaching at Duke University, a position he has held for nearly 50 years. He received numerous literary honors, including the National Book Critics Circle Award, the William Faulkner Foundation Award and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in 1989 for his memoir “Clear Pictures”. He is also a member of the prestigious American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Price, who lives in Durham, is a regular commentator on NPR’s “All Things Considered”. Price’s searing and honest accounts of his long battle with spinal cancer that ultimately left him confined to a wheelchair reveal a humanity that embraces us all and makes him an NC Notable.
