Philip Blumenthal
 Philip Blumenthal is this week’s NC Notable.
They say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Blumenthal has taken the seeds of his family’s philanthropic foundation and built an orchard.
His participation in various environmental and civic organizations read like who’s who list of community service: the Sierra Club, the Conservation Council of North Carolina, the NC Nature Conservancy and Discovery Place, to name a few.
Blumenthal was born and raised in Charlotte. He graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1972. Just a few years after Blumenthal was born in 1950, his father and uncle established the Blumenthal Foundation for Charity, Religion, Education and Better Interfaith Relations. The foundation gives seed money to a multitude of non-profits.
Blumenthal is the director of the foundation and Wildacres Retreat, an interfaith conference center, in Little Switzerland, NC.
