Norman Wiggins

Norman WigginsWhen crowds gathered in the hallways of Campbell University Doctor Norman Adrian Wiggins’ was usually the center of attention. Over 25-thousand students of this Baptist institution called Dr. Wiggins their friend and mentor.

During the 37 years of Dr. Wiggins’ Presidency his experience and passion propelled this rural Baptist college in Buies Creek into the second largest private university in this state, and the nation’s second largest Baptist university. Wiggins strengthened the undergraduate college, added five new schools to the university, and established educational programs in the state’s four major military bases. During his tenure he added an acclaimed law school, school of pharmacy, and divinity school. Too many accolades to mention point to Dr. Wiggins’ “stunning” breadth of accomplishments unmatched in the history of church-related education.”

For Dr. Norman Wiggin’s patriotism, leadership, academic excellence, and devotion to his faith commitment, this legendary figure among North Carolina Baptists is this week’s NC Notable.
