John Forlines
 Banker John Forlines Jr.is this week’s NC Notable. Forlines has always said he was just a hard working country boy, but others say he is peerless, the best-known community banker worldwide.
During his 52-year leadership of The Bank of Granite, this Alamance County native helped turn one of the state’s smallest banks into the most profitable community banks in the nation, with assets over one billion dollars.
Known for controlling expenses and providing continuous dividend increases he was a delight to shareholders, landing him in the NC Banking Hall of Fame, while also receiving the state’s highest civilian honor, The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
John Forlines is a leader on many fronts. Employees call him a wonderful mentor. Since the death of his wife Forlines raised over one million dollars for Hospice. He also championed the state’s community college system.
For his stellar banking career, his quiet devotion to our state and to humanitarian causes John Forlines is truly an NC Notable.
