  NC Notable for 04/27/06

Bob Hall

Bob HallBob Hall may be extremely humble, but behind his quiet demeanor, this week’s NC Notable is an aggressive watchdog for civil liberties.

As research director for the nonpartisan watchdog group Democracy North Carolina, Hall closely monitors the influence of money on state politics. His complaint to the State Board of Elections of alleged campaign finance irregularities has led to several investigations by the State Board of Elections.

This math and religion major honed his skills as an investigative researcher at Atlanta’s Institute for Southern Studies where he started the award winning investigative journal Southern Exposure magazine. Relocating to the Triangle, Hall’s solid investigations highlighted many pay-to-play political scandals, problems in the state’s road building and hog industries.

Associates say Hall possess a crystal ball for discovering relevant issues that forces accountability by public and private sector officials. The State Board of Elections recently applauded him for his campaign finance research.

His dogged research and promotion of Democracy and justice makes Bob Hall this week’s NC Notable.
