Nicholas Sparks
 Nicholas Sparks wrote his first bestseller novel in 1994 at age 28. The Nebraska native is more at home writing easy-to-read romantic novels set in Eastern Carolina.
Now living in New Bern, Spark’s writings have made him famous and wealthy, with many turned into movies. What makes him truly notable is his heart. Sparks still holds the freshman relay team school record at Notre Dame and runs 30 miles each week. Appalled at the condition of the New Bern High School track, Nicholas paid to have a state-of-the-art track installed. He volunteers with a junior track club that includes one of his five children and recently moved a potential track star and his family from New Orleans so he would have a better chance to compete.
For his wonderful stories, his love for eastern Carolina and young people and for sharing his wealth we are proud to salute Nicholas Sparks as this week’s NC Notable.
