Phail Wynn
 This week’s Notable, Phail Wynn, has crafted Durham Technical Community College into an indispensable Research Triangle Park asset. One of the country’s outstanding community college presidents, Phail became, in 1980, the first African-American community college president in North Carolina.
Wynn created innovative customized training programs at the school for most Research Triangle companies. He worked hard to recruit more women into the technical programs and developed more scholarships for young African-American men at the 24-thousand student campus.
Wynn has received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine, and was president of the NC Community College President’s Association. Wynn was also the first educator elected Chairman of the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of governors for Research Triangle Institute.
