John G. Medlin
 This week’s NC Notable, John G. Medlin, led Wachovia Corporation to become one of the nation’s largest financial companies.
John grew up on a farm near Benson, received his business degree from UNC and served a stint in the Navy. Medlin joined Wachovia in 1959. Elected President at age 40 then its CEO, he grew the company’s asset base from 3 to over 35 billion dollars during his 17 years of leadership.
Several industry magazines honored him and he was inducted into the State Business and Banking Halls of Fame. Medlin has served our state on many commissions and boards, including the Duke Endowment. He has been awarded five honorary degrees and served on the Market Oversight Advisory Committee of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Even with all the accolades Medlin says his top priority has always been family.
