Banks Talley
 For three decades Talley jump-started cultural curriculum and the arts at NC State University. In 1951 Talley became assistant dean of students, then vice chancellor for student affairs.
Under his stewardship the schools of Music and Visual arts flourished. Talley helped start the Crafts Center, Thompson and Stewart theatres, as well as leadership and study-abroad programs. In 1998 the student center was named in his honor.
Talley served as Executive Director of the NC Symphony for ten years and Governor Jim Hunt’s Executive Assistant. He also dedicated time to national and local preservation efforts. In 1995 Talley was given the prestigious NC Award for Public Service.
Now retired, he’s still fundraising for historic preservation and enjoying his grandchildren. For his outstanding public service in the arts and preservation, we honor Banks Talley as this week’s NC Notable.
