Dr. Robert Bruck
NC State Professor Dr. Robert Bruck studied the effects of air pollution at Mount Mitchell and announced conclusive proof that nitrogen oxide emissions from hundreds of miles west were creating acid rain and killing trees. When the federal government attacked his findings, Bruck held his ground.
Bruck earned doctorate degrees from Syracuse and Cornell in biology and forest pathology. Since 1978 he has been a Distinguished Professor of Plant Pathology, Forestry, Environmental Science and Technology at NC State. He has written over 100 research papers, delivered more than 400 speeches, and testified before Congress 13 times.
Bruck has received the NC Medal of Science and was the Sierra Club’s Environmental Hero of the Decade. Bruck especially likes teaching freshmen, currently teaching nine courses, mentoring 100 students, and taking them to South and Central American rain forests. He wants to make NC State the, “best problem-solving environmental university in the country.”
An international authority on air pollution we name Dr. Robert Bruck as our NC Notable.
