In-person early voting is over in North Carolina, and nearly 200,000 more ballots were cast compared to the last midterm election four years ago.

State Board of Elections data show nearly 1.1 million votes were cast before early-voting centers closed Saturday. In 2010, slightly more than 900,000 people cast votes during the 17-day early-voting period, a week more than this year. The legislature reduced the number of early voting days last year.

Another 58,000 traditional absentee ballots also have been collected this fall. Others must get turned in or postmarked by Election Day to qualify.

Forty-eight percent of all cast ballots have come from Democrats, 32 percent from Republicans and 20 percent from unaffiliated voters.

Twenty-five percent of all ballots are from black voters and 72 percent from white voters.
