A few numbers to consider for opening day of the 2015 legislative session:

  • 199.2: In millions of dollars, amount the General Fund is below the consensus revenue target through December, according to the Fiscal Research Division
  • 6: New senators, including Sen. Michael Lee, R-New Hanover, who was appointed last year
  • 16: New House members, including recent appointees
  • 45: House Democrats
  • 34: Senate Republicans
  • 1: Unaffiliated members of General Assembly (Rep. Paul Tine)
  • 443: Lobbyists registered as of Monday
  • 511: Principals that employ lobbyists as of Monday
  • 39: Women in General Assembly
  • 23: Percentage of women in General Assembly
  • 51: Percentage of women in N.C. population
  • 36: Legislators with military experience
  • 33: Attorneys in the General Assembly
  • 110: Legislators who weren't in the General Assembly five years ago, according to the N.C. Center for Public Policy Research
  • 3: Vetoes by Gov. Pat McCrory in 2013-14 session
  • 2: Vetoes overridden by legislature
  • 18.5: House terms served by Rep. Mickey Michaux, D-Durham, the longest-serving legislator

Everyone talks about the revenue short fall. Question for you. Does a lot more money come in to the revenue dept in the first 4 months of the year due to taxes?
