Gov. Pat McCrory seems to have questioned practically every aspect of North Carolina elections, and hard-working elections officials across the state patiently have listened and responded. But with each day, Democrat Roy Cooper’s lead in votes grows. It is time for McCrory to accept that truth and concede the race.

As we noted in this space two weeks ago, it is important to ensure the accuracy of votes, and election boards in counties and at the state level have done just that. As provisional votes continued to be tallied, Cooper’s lead grew from less than 5,000 on Election Night to roughly double that today.

McCrory’s challenges strained credulity from the outset. North Carolina voters treated Republican candidates very favorably in the Nov. 8 election, siding with Donald Trump, U.S. Richard Burr and most GOP incumbents across the state. To accept some of the questions and accusations raised by the McCrory camp would be to call into question other races, as well.

It is time to put aside the questions and accept the reality. It is time to congratulate Gov.-elect Cooper and move on.

Douglas Scott Treado says:

Never thought I would see this on NCSpin....! Well, McCrory and Art Pope, and others had their chance, but blew it big-time. Enough damage was done during those four years, and altho' we have a GOP legislature, at least the economy and environment of N. Carolina may fare better during the next four years!
