What's up with Dobbs?

Toilets in the Dobbs Building were inoperable for much of the day Tuesday. The Dobbs building, one of several buildings constructed in the 1970s on the Halifax Mall in the State Government Complex in Raleigh, has been the source of many maintenance problems. In April of this year the ground floor of the building was flooded due to a burst water line connected to a sprinkler system.

The problem with toilets  problem was a backed-up sewer line and state property management employees worked throughout the afternoon and unclogged the lines about 8:30 last night.

The reason for the clogged sewer line can be partially attributed to low-flow toilets installed in Dobbs during the Perdue administration. But property management officials say the bigger culprit was paper towels being flushed down the toilets. mostly from women's rest rooms. We learned this is a growing problem, not only in Dobbs but in other state buildings.

Dobbs is one of the Buildings Governor McCrory frequently mentions in saying that North Carolina has not properly maintained state-owned buildings and needs to spend millions of dollars brining them up to habitable and safe standards. The Albemarle Building, another on the Governor's list is currently vacant and being remodeled.
