After SPIN! Video: How should police handle high speed chases?

Published June 1, 2016

After SPIN! "Question to Chris Fitzsimon – A recent editorial in the Wilmington-Star News recounts a fatality that resulted from a high-speed chase of a motorist by the Highway Patrol. The opinion piece said that law enforcement might need to reconsider when and how to conduct these high-speed chases. What’s your view on them and what recommendations might you make?"

Johnny Hiott says:

Chris is partly right in that it's twice as bad to have two cars endangering the public. However it is never just two cars. When

one decides to not stop for law enforcement there are immediately two dozen or more who respond, from highway patrol to local sheriff deputies.

Surely with license plate readers and all the other technology used on

citizens today there is a better way. It would probably help if auto

manufacturers would stop building autos that will travel in excess of

180 mph and that includes cars driven by all manner of law enforcement.
