Barber defends "Dummy" remark

North Carolina NAACP President William Barber is standing by his characterization of the U.S. Senate’s only African-American Republican as a ventriloquist’s “dummy.”

Barber made the comment Sunday night in Columbia. In a talk about what he called “right-wing extremism,” he criticized African Americans who he said aren’t following the spirit of Martin Luther King. He singled out Republican U.S. Sen. Tim Scott.

“A ventriloquist can always find a good dummy,” Barber said. “The extreme right wing down here (in South Carolina) finds a black guy to be senator and claims he’s the first black senator since Reconstruction and then he goes to Washington, D.C., and articulates the agenda of the tea party.”

The comment generated national attention and a strong rebuke from Scott.

He told Fox News’ Megyn Kelly Tuesday that he was the target of “philosophical bigotry.”

“What we’re hearing is baseless rhetoric about the same old things that have not worked so far,” Scott told her. “We’ve had a 50-year war led by the government on poverty, and it hasn’t taken people out... In this country, conservatives, free market capitalism, produces greater success than the government can ever do.”

The North Carolina Republican Party Wednesday released samples of the national reaction in a news release headlined, “America meets Rev. William Barber.”

Barber’s comments in Columbia came during a speech about issues such as voting, health care, environment and education. He defended his comment Tuesday night in Charlotte and in a statement Wednesday.

“We believe leaders should not be echoes of the voice of extremism,” he said before an appearance in Charlotte. “The indignation should not be so much about the language. The indignation should be about the actions.”

In a statement Wednesday, he said, “Unless we stand for justice, we cannot claim allegiance to or pay homage to Dr. King. Democrat or Republican, tea party or no party, we need to talk about what’s right versus what’s wrong. Who is anybody speaking for regardless of party or color if you support extreme policies.…

“This is a critique that must be offered for all people, regardless of skin color.”

Norm Kelly says:

Regardless of how Barber or anyone else defends the stupid comments recently made by Barber, the defense is pointless and irrelevant. The point is, since the guy in question is not a lib, does not agree with the ideas/opinions of Barber, then Barber feels justified in calling this guy any name he chooses to. Without apology. Without fear of repercussion from anyone that matters. The point is that if ANY white guy had called him a dummy, that white guy would immediately be called a racist, and blacks would come out of the woodwork to have the white guy forcibly removed from whatever job he held. If ANY Republican/conservative were ever to refer to a black guy as a dummy, that person would be reprimanded by everyone, including colleagues in Congress if it was a Congressperson. Let's face it, most of us who still have the ability to think do NOT like or agree with the policies of Mr.Obama, but instead of focusing on the policy differences, what is it that libs, blacks, media-types concentrate on and claim loudly and often? Because we disagree with Obama's policies, we are automatically labeled racists. We are NOT allowed to disagree with his high holiness's policies BECAUSE he's a (mostly) black man.

So, Barber can now say anything he wants, he has proved his point. If you disagree with him, with libs, with Obama, you are a dummy. At the least. He probably has already labeled us racists, so which is worse?

Barber also refers to those of us who want to follow the law, who want to follow the Constitution, who want to restore freedom to all American citizens, 'right wing extremists'. Again, is it because I disagree with his obvious leftist policies? Is it possible that Barber is a 'left wing extremist'? No. Why? Because there are 2 well known facts. First, black people are incapable of being racist. Second, libs are incapable of being extremists. Regardless of how much their policies are in line with socialism, they are not extremists. They are kind, loving, caring people who are only concerned about their fellow people. Their policies MAY reduce freedom, MAY reduce someone's ability to prosper, MAY trap someone in poverty, but since they are doing it because they LOVE EVERYONE, then those who suffer only suffer so many others can be helped. Not succeed, mind you. But be helped. By kindly loving selfless libs. If they were kindly, wouldn't they want others to have the ability to succeed on their own? People like Barber aren't interested in anyone elses individual success. They are only interested in making sure their policies are implemented regardless of how they have to do it, regardless of how many double-standards they live in.

Scott's response when appearing with Megyn is spot on. Over 50 years of wealth redistribution and are we any better off? Barber spouts the same OLD, TIRED, FAILED policies of the extreme liberal left, but can't point to those policies working. Scott appears to stand for freedom, which will be good for ALL people, including blacks. Isn't Scott supposed to be in office to represent his constituents? Aren't some of his constituents black? Shouldn't he be in Congress working to ALLOW blacks in his district to better THEMSELVES? What part of socialism allows ANYONE to better themselves? What part of stealing money from 'the rich' allows 'the poor' to better themselves? No proof. So call the proponent of freedom a 'dummy'. Shows the intelligence of Barber. It's about time other people around the country were made aware of the idiocy that NC citizens have been subjected to by Barber for years! More people need to learn what a waste of a lot of space Barber really is.

In Barber's response he said 'leaders should not be echoes of the voice of extremism'. What is Barber if not an echo chamber of extreme left wing ideas. (i use the word 'ideas' loosely. what the libs have are not ideas.) Show the rest of us where Barber has done something other than echo the extreme left. Show us where he wants to expand freedom, reduce government control of lives - at any level of government, show us where Barber is opposed to the central planners interfering with the relationship between a patient and their doctor. Show us where Barber stands opposed to ANY Demon who claims that blacks are incapable of taking care of themselves. You won't find any of that. Barber supports the idea that blacks are incapable of taking care of themselves. Look at his record. Barber claims that black people can't even get to the DMV to get a picture taken and/or can't afford the $10 fee to get the picture. He ignores the fact that the government is willing to pay for those helpless blacks to get their picture id. And the government even provides public transportation to get those helpless black people to the DMV to get their picture taken. But just like those kindly white politicians who are racist and think so lowly of blacks in general, so does Barber. How does this support and help blacks? How do blacks continue to follow Barber when it's pointed out to them how lowly he thinks of them?

Barber supports extreme leftist policies, yet he wonders who someone might be speaking for regardless of skin color when holding these ideas. Barber is an extremist. Yet he claims the ability to speak for blacks. Why do blacks accept this? What part of Barber's 'ideas' promote black independence? What part of Barber's ideas promote blacks' ability to succeed on their own, climb the ladder of success, and be a contributing part of society? Barber's 'ideas' are simply regurgitation of socialist ideas formulated by white politicians to maintain power & control. According to Barber, it's ok to be a leftist extremist, but it's not allowed for ANY black person to be a conservative, fighting for freedom for ALL people including blacks.

It's about time that the press who so loves Barber finally lets him go. Stop following him like little puppy dogs. His ideas are wrong. He's an extremist, the type that he rails against. Barber is an extremist of the type he calls 'dummy'. When the shoe fits, it's time we put that shoe on Barber. When some white person now comes out and uses the same standard on Barber that Barber uses on others, and refers properly to Barber as a 'dummy', will the press support that white guy? Even if the white person uses the same standard to come to the 'dummy' conclusion? Of course not. The N&D, CNN, MSNBC would all make a spectacle of that white person, even though the same standard was used to label Barber. But by his own standard, the conclusion obviously is that Barber is just another 'dummy'. But since he is a 'dummy' for the libs, it's to be accepted. And ignored; not defined. Another lib double-standard. That no lib will recognize.

(i'd refer to barber in kinder terms but he doesn't deserve it. i didn't put 'mr.' in front of his name because that would show a level of respect he does not deserve. he is a hypocrite, plain and simple. he's as bad as jesse or worse. he's an extremist, by his own standard. i won't refer to him as a 'dummy', i'll just drop the 'mr' in front of his name. libs will still call me a racist for doing this. too bad. i'll still sleep well at night.)
