No Democratic leader is doing a better job standing up to Trump than Illinois Governor JB Pritzker – a protégé of North Carolina’s Terry Sanford.

When Trump threatened to arrest him, Pritzker shot back: “Come and get me.”

When Trump sent National Guard troops from Texas to “war-torn Chicago,” Pritzker made a mocking video (photo) on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Dressed like a TV reporter in a war zone and standing in front of a peaceful street scene, with people strolling by and cars passing, Pritzker solemnly intoned, “as you can see, there’s utter chaos and mayhem on the ground.”

“The Milwaukee Brewers have come in to attack our Chicago Cubs, we’ve seen people forced to eat hot dogs with ketchup on them, and our deep-dish pizza, well, has gone shallow.”

More seriously, on ABC’s This Week Sunday, Pritzker slammed Trump’s authoritarianism:

“They’re making things up to go after people. I’m going to stand up for the people of my state. And we’ve got to all stand together because there are truly unconstitutional actions that are coming out of this administration, coming at the states and the people of the United States, and all of us, Democrats and Republicans, need to speak out about it.”

Pritzker reminds me of Sanford, who was Governor, U.S. Senator and President of Duke University, where Pritzker was a student.

Like Sanford, Pritzker has a broad, friendly face. He has a wicked wit and a down-to-earth way about him. Like Sanford, he has guts.

Sanford would have been a great President. He ran in 1972 and 1976, but poor timing and poor health kept him out of the White House.

Let Trump come and get Pritzker.

Democrats should go and get him for President in 2028.
