Dear Senator Berger and Speaker Moore: Please watch this video

It’s not like the story hasn’t been told repeatedly over the last several years, but sometimes you have to hear it one more time from a person whose life and wellbeing are, quite literally, on the line to fully grasp the pain and suffering that the Berger-Moore Medicaid expansion blockade is really inflicting on hundreds of thousands of North Carolinians.

Sadly, it seems all but certain that neither Senate President Pro Tem Phil Berger nor House Speaker Tim Moore will take the time to listen to Ms. Lynn Carver — much less meet with the Cullowhee, North Carolina resident to hear her heartrending story in person — but if they ever would, it’s hard to imagine how either man could look her in the eye and continue to tell her that she is not worthy of Medicaid health insurance.

Ms. Carver spoke yesterday at a powerful press event that took place at the General Assembly, during which a number of speakers came forward to defend Gov. Cooper’s veto of the deeply flawed budget bill that lawmakers sent to him last month. If you watch the video below, you’ll hear compelling explanations of the budget bill’s numerous shortcomings in a variety of critically important areas.

If you only have a few minutes to spare, however, skip ahead to around the 11 minute mark to hear Ms. Carver’s emotional testimony. Then, if you get a chance, share it on social media and with any Medicaid expansion skeptics with whom you might be acquainted. Maybe, if only by accident, the video will find its way to Berger and/or Moore sometime soon — ideally, right before they try to turn in for a night’s sleep.
