Duke, UNC ranked high on top colleges list

U.S. News & World Report released its annual college rankings on Tuesday, and Triangle universities were well represented in numerous categories.

Duke University was No. 7 out of nearly 1,800 schools, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was No. 30. Wake Forest University, located in Winston-Salem, was 23rd.

North Carolina State University came in at No. 101.

UNC-Chapel Hill ranked as the fifth-best public school, and N.C. State checked in at No. 47.

Among historically black colleges, North Carolina Central University was 12th and Fayetteville State University was 25th.

U.S. News and World Report rankings are based on graduation and retention rates, assessment by peers and counselors, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, graduation rate performance and alumni giving.
