Everybody does it

You’ve got to hand it to Tim Moore. He’s consistent. He’s been turning public service into private profit ever since he first went to Raleigh more than twenty years ago.

Now, Tim’s in Washington during the Trump Era where grifting is high art. He’s done well, using his insider knowledge to add to his fortune. While other Members of Congress are trying to ban their colleagues from trading in stocks, Tim is wheeling and dealing like a pro. He’s not interested in turning off the money spigot right as gets to the big time.

News has it that Tim is now betting against the Trump economy. He’s put hundreds of thousands of dollars into an investment fund which makes money when the stock market tanks. Tim believes we’re in for a rough economic ride and he’s here for it, profiting off the losses to people’s pension and retirement funds.

I used to say that Thom Tillis knows what’s right and does what’s wrong. Tim Moore just doesn’t care as long as he’s making bank. He’s telling his constituents that Trump is doing great things for the economy, but he’s putting his money on the economy tanking. Follow what he does, not what he says.

Moore doesn’t have to worry about accountability. He’s in a gerrymandered district where most voters would support a child molester over a Democrat. Besides, they’ll probably never hear about Tim’s grifting ways. They’re locked into Fox News and talk radio for their information, no matter how bad it might be.

Republicans like Moore have also numbed the public to corruption. Ever since Watergate, they’ve been claiming “Everybody does it” to justify bad behavior by GOP politicians. Right now, Florida Congressman Cory Mills is facing a restraining order from an ex-girlfriend. Mills admits to the affair but says it’s over. He’s married to another woman. Nobody will care because they all do it.

The Trump family is turning millions into billions, profiting off of Trump’s position as president. Moore’s just doing it on a smaller scale. The grifter wing of the GOP is emergent right now. They’ll turn their backs on the Constitution and the rights of Americans to line their pockets while the getting is good. Republicans, from the rank-and-file to the top leaders, will look away. Accountability is not one of their priorities because, you know, everybody does it.
