A reader who worked for years as a corporate lobbyist in Raleigh and Washington offers this take on today’s Republican Party:
“I read that Trump will unblock funds for critical infrastructure improvements if the Senate minority leader will put Trump’s name on Penn Station and Dulles airport. Trump has said in the past that if he doesn’t honor himself he’ll be forgotten.
“He needs not worry about that.
“His name will be etched forever on the tombstone at the grave of ‘normal’ Republicans whose ability to advance their conservative economic agenda will soon die because of him. (The graves of the MAGAts and right wingers will be closer to the gates to the Portals of Hell to shorten their commute).
“The ‘normal’ Repubs are being dragged into irrelevancy and the big doors are swinging shut on them. They abdicated their authority to levy taxes and tariffs to a lawless dictator while allowing the racism, belligerence, ignorance and chaos of his administration to go unchecked.
“When they wonder what happened, they will only need to look at their own gravestone.”
