Lying liars lie

Roy Cooper could respond to Michael Whatley’s attack ads by simply saying: “He lies like Trump.”

A Whatley ad blames Cooper for releasing a prisoner who then murdered a woman.

Lie.

“The suspect was released from a prison in South Carolina, not North Carolina,” Fact Check found.

Another ad features a grieving father and blames Cooper for his son’s murder.

Lie.

The case had nothing to do with Cooper.

The father told the Greensboro News & Record that the ad is “deceitful, conniving and sneaky” - and added, “I’ve voted for Cooper in the past and will continue to do so.”

At his blog New Branchhead, Alex H. Jones dissected the lies in Whatley’s attacks on Cooper over a court-ordered Covid-era prisoner release.

Danielle Battaglia reported in The News & Observer that, when Whatley was chair, the North Carolina Republican Party put out a news release in 2020 saying:

“Governor Roy Cooper spent the 1990s implementing draconian legislation that criminal justice advocates decry.”

That is, Whatley called Cooper too tough on crime before he called him too soft on crime.

His lies are truly breathtaking - and should be disqualifying.

He’s like Trump: the bigger the lie, the better - the more, the merrier.

The last thing we need in Washington is another great liar.
