MAGA-gator

Thom Tillis and Phil Berger fed the MAGA alligator.

Then it ate them.

Thomas Mills wrote at PoliticsNC that, “In January 2011, State Senator Phil Berger and then-State Representative Thom Tillis entered the North Carolina political stage at the same time. As Republicans took control of the legislature for the first time in more than a hundred years, they led their respective chambers. If Berger loses his primary, they will exit at the same time.”

Tillis and Berger rode the Tea Party wave to power in the 2010 election.

The Tea Party spawned Trump. Trump spawned MAGA.

Tillis and Berger kept riding the wave.

Then Tillis turned on Trump, so Trump and MAGA turned on him and forced him to retire from the Senate.

Berger dove into the swamp of Raleigh insiders, lobbyist, consultants and big donors.

As Carter Wrenn said in Jeffrey Billman’s terrific article in The Assembly about Berger, “He’s been in power so long, he’s become almost an emblem of the Republican political establishment.”

He tried to ram a casino down his constituents’ throats.

Now, he appears to have lost reelection to an even more MAGA candidate.

If he tries to overturn the result, his opponents will cry, “Stop the Steal!”

That’s the problem with feeding alligators.

Eventually, they eat you.
