Silliness on the loose

The other day heading to a small town in South Dakota to give a speech President Trump put a video on Truth Social showing his face, covered with gold, on Mt. Rushmore alongside Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt – in the video he said, I will be the greatest president for many, many years to come.

Why did he think that was a good idea? Couldn’t he see that kind of boast leaves people shaking their heads?

And why didn’t the folks around him warn, Don’t do that – it’s going to backfire.

Were they afraid to tell him what he didn’t want to hear?

Not seeing that boast as a mistake was silly.

But there’s a lot of silliness on the loose in politics these days. The roots run back to old vices. Like vanity. And pride.
